The One with the Topbox October 2017 Box

Welcome to my October Topbox unboxing! Topbox is such a great Canadian subscription. I find that some months can be hit or miss but the fact that it’s only $12 a month makes up for that. Lately, I’ve had a lot more hits than misses and haven’t been truly disappointed in a long time! I know this month was a little disappointing for some people but I really love my box!

First Aid Beauty 5-in-1 Bouncy Mask

First Aid Beauty 5-in-1 Bouncy Mask

This product is not new to me because I received it a few months ago in my Rachhloves box. I’ve only used it a couple of times because it didn’t really wow me. If I were receiving this without trying it before, I would be more excited to get it because hello, skincare. Unfortunately, it just didn’t seem to do much for my skin so I’m not too thrilled about having a backup. I’ll likely gift it or save for a giveaway!

The 5-in-1 claim is that this mask nourishes, calms, visibly firms, plumps and refines in as little as 10 minutes. I don’t want to make the mask sound terrible because it’s not. I feel like some of their claims are true but I did not find it to firm or plump my skin at all. Otherwise, it’s a pleasant and quick mask. It’s also cooling and adds some hydration.

Biotherm Life Plankton Essence Fundamental Skin Treatment

Guys, you have no idea how excited I was to see this in my Topbox!! Recently I was shopping at Shoppers Drug Mart and I was browsing the skincare, looking for an essence. I’ve been very curious to add one to my skincare routine and other than the SK-II essence and dupes for that one, I don’t really hear much about any other essence.

I saw this one at Shoppers and I kept going back to it wanting to buy it. Ultimately, I decided not to because it’s just not like me to buy an expensive skincare item without trying a sample size first.

I am so thrilled this was included in my box and I’m very happy that I didn’t buy the full size! I really hope I enjoy it because it sounds very nice! It’s supposed to hydrate, allow following skincare to absorb better, and provide nutrients to the skin.

Retail Value: $8.40 CAD for 14 ml (full size is $75 for 125 ml)

Elizabeth Arden Advanced Ceramide Capsules Daily Youth Restoring Serum

Elizabeth Arden Advanced Ceramide Capsules Daily Youth Restoring Serum

This is one of the first ever serums I ever tried! I think the first was from Avon and then I tried these capsules! I remember liking them but it was so long ago, I don’t remember if anything stood out about them.

These ones are a new formula and from what I read, they have tripled the youth restoring power. This serum helps to strengthen and restore the skin’s moisture barrier using youth-restoring ceramides and potent botanicals! It’s supposed to give firmer and smoother skin!

While there aren’t many in the little container, it is an expensive product.

Retail Value: $11.43 CAD for 7 capsules (full size is $98 for 60 capsules)

Doucce Punk Volumizer Mascara

Doucce Punk Volumizer Mascara

I’ve only heard of this brand recently because I have seen Topbox sending it out to other people. I haven’t read any reviews of this mascara so I will have no expectations going into it! It claims to define lashes, volumize and curl without clumping, flaking, or smudging. It doesn’t say anything about lengthening though which is generally what I look for in my mascaras.

I always like to receive mascaras in my boxes because I know I will use them. It also helps me in my goal to try all the mascaras in the world. Because apparently that is my goal in life.

There’s no size listed on this mascara so I will estimate it at half.

Check it out here!

Retail Value: $12 USD / $15.44 CAD for half-size (estimate) (full size is $24 USD / $30.88 CAD)

Total Retail Value: $44.67 CAD

Wella EIMI Perfect Me Lightweight Beauty Balm Lotion

Complimentary Sample: Wella EIMI Perfect Me Lightweight Beauty Balm Lotion

Ok, so I wasn’t familiar with Wella before receiving this sample and the name of it made me think it was an actual lotion. Like a body or hand lotion! I feel like they should name it “hair balm lotion” instead! Or maybe I’m just living under a rock and I should have known Wella was a hair brand. XD

This is a pretty small sample so I imagine I can only get one use out of it – maybe 2 if I’m lucky. It’s always nice when Topbox includes an extra sample in addition to our guaranteed 4.

Conclusion

I loved my Topbox this month! I lucked out that I got predominantly skincare (which is my thing) and mascara (also my thing). Even though I wasn’t ecstatic about the Bouncy Mask, it’s nice to have some items I’m willing to part with so that I can put it away for someone else.

A lot of the boxes for this month that I have seen weren’t the greatest. Some included card and foil samples and to me, that is unacceptable! If Topbox were to send out a card sample as a complimentary item, that would make sense. But it shouldn’t be included in the 4 deluxe samples.

I feel awful for those that got some pretty crappy sized samples this month! I saw an eyebrow card sample, lipstick card sample and The Body Shop mask foil sample included in some people’s boxes this month. I would suggest emailing their customer service to complain! They’re usually great to deal with and maybe they won’t send out those pitiful samples anymore! This is the first month I’ve ever seen them do that and hopefully the last.

Did you get a Topbox this month? What did you get? Were you happy with it?

  1. I got the same as you, except for the mask; in its place, I received the Redken two-day extender, colour matching dry shampoo. I tried it but don’t really like it – I prefer receiving skin care items rather than items for hair. Thanks for your review – I like hearing what others receive!

  3. I’m glad you got a good box this month and didn’t get any card samples! I agree, card samples are totally unacceptable in a box that you pay for as you can go to any beauty store and get samples for free.

That biotherm essence sounds really interesting, I hope it works well for your skin!
