The One with the Sephora Favourites Superstars Everyday Must Haves Set

Hello friends!

It’s that time of year where Sephora is releasing set after set after set! I go crazy for these because it’s the best way to try out a bunch of new products at a discounted price! Plus I just love minis because I never go through full sized makeup anyway. I’m a little embarrassed to tell you that I’ve already indulged in four Sephora Favourites sets this month. Oops.

Last year, I was trying to be smart with my money and wait for the Fall VIB sale to buy a couple of these sets but they ended up selling out and never coming back in stock. 😦 I missed out on last year’s set like this one. So this year, I’m purchasing the ones I want right away, just in case.

Sephora Favorites Superstars Everyday Must Haves 2017

So today I am going to unbox the Sephora Favourites Superstars Everyday Must Haves set and also break down the value for you! All dollars will be in CAD. Let’s get started!

Cost: $90
Value: $268
Contains: 13 products, including 3 full size

Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in “Cruella”

Starting on a bit of a low note, I wasn’t over the moon about the inclusion of this shade of Nars lip pencil. I already own this colour because it was a Sephora birthday gift just a couple of years ago. However, I know it’s a popular shade so I understand its inclusion. I will save this one for a future giveaway!

“Cruella” is a beautiful scarlet red! It’s so creamy and opaque. I absolutely love these lip pencils because I have small lips so I appreciate the tapered tip!

Retail Value: $24.75 for 1.8 g (full size is $33 for 2.4 g)

Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Long Wear Matte Lipstick in “Sell Out”

I’m thrilled to try this liquid lipstick! I’m a fan of the original Melted liquified lipsticks from Too Faced so it’s nice to be able to try the matte version. The shade “Sell Out” is described as a soft pinky-brown. This shade looks a lot different in person than it does on the Sephora website! It is a lot more mauve rather than brown. I think this was a good colour to include since it falls into the neutral category that the majority seems to love.

Retail Value: $8.21 for 2.3 ml (full size is $25 for 7 ml)

Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner Gel Eye Crayon in “Blacquer”

This is another past birthday gift from Sephora. I don’t own this one already though because I chose the Fresh gift instead. I’m happy to get the chance to try this eyeliner because it’s definitely a cult favourite! It is very waterproof as a swatch on my hand so it looks like it’s perfect to tightline with!

Retail Value: $22.94 for 0.37 g (full size is $31 for 0.5 g)

Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick in “Golden Pink”

This is gorgeous. I haven’t used a shadow stick in a long time but this one is clearly going to change that! This is a shimmery pinky peach shade which is exactly the type of eyeshadow colour that I’m normally drawn to. I’m going to love playing around with this! Shadow sticks are so great to have on hand because they are quick and easy to use.

Retail Value: $20.25 for 0.9 g (full size is $36 for 1.6 g)

Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara in “Black”

I’m a mascara junkie! I admit it. I want to try them all. I’m still searching for the perfect one and a part of me thinks that it doesn’t exist! But I digress. I already have a mini of this Tarte mascara that I haven’t opened yet. It’s pretty close to being next in line after I get through a couple open ones.

I’ve read good reviews on this mascara for the most part but I also feel like mascara is such a personal thing. Some people have amazing naturally long and thick lashes so any mascara is going to look great on them. I, on the other hand, have to fight with my mascaras to give me any extra length or volume!

Retail Value: $15.43 for 4 ml (full size is $27 for 7 ml)

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in “Medium Brown”

This is one of the full size products in the box! My only issue with these sets is when they include products that clearly don’t cater to all skin types or in this case, hair types. I’m afraid to try this because I have a feeling it will be too dark. I’d rather not use it so I can pass it along to someone who has darker brows than me. The other half of me just wants to try it out anyway to see what all the hype is about!

Retail Value: $27 (full size)

Kat Von D Beauty Lock-It Setting Powder

I am pretty excited to try this! Setting powder is one of my favourite makeup items to try. It’s like mascara for me where I want to try them all! XD I honestly haven’t heard much chatter about this powder so I have no idea what to expect! Sometimes it’s nice going in blind. I have quite a few powders on the go but I may end up opening this anyway. It’s translucent but has a bit of a tint.

This size is sold on the Sephora website as a mini.

Retail Value: $20 (travel size)

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Microfinishing Loose Powder

Another setting powder! For some, that may be one too many, but for me, I’ll take it! I’ve always wanted to try this powder. I’ve always been a little scared because people always talk about the flashback. But other than that, it seems to get such good reviews. I’ve also found that I don’t really like translucent powders because they make my skin look weird, colour-wise. So I’m hoping I enjoy this!

Retail Value: $5.18 for 1 g (full size is $44 for 8.5 g)

Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer

The last thing in the world I need is primer. Honestly. My collection is huge and I don’t even know how it got that way because I never buy primer. It’s probably all from sets like these. XD With that said, this is another popular primer that I’m sure most people would be happy to receive.

I really need to start experimenting and straying from Benefit’s The Porefessional to see what else is out there. I have so many minis of this that I feel no need to keep this one. I’m going to pass this along in my giveaway!

This size is sold on the Sephora website as a mini.

Retail Value: $20 (travel size)

Beautyblender The Original Beautyblender

This is the second “full size” product from this set. I haven’t had an original Beautyblender in a year or so. I honestly switched to the RealTechniques sponge because I found the application just as good for a cheaper price. But I will not say no to using a Beautyblender again! I love this pink egg.

Retail Value: $28 (full size)

Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Matte Bronzer

I own this bronzer already but it is one of my favourite bronzers so having a backup is nice! I love it because it is matte and also because it doesn’t lean too warm. If you have pale skin, it might be a little dark but I find it works great for me in the summertime.

This little Hoola bronzer is just a tad smaller than the mini size they sell on the Sephora website.

Retail Value: $14.25 for 3 g (full size is $38 for 8 g)

Yves Saint Laurent Touche Èclat Radiant Touch in “2 Luminous Ivory”

I have never in my life owned something from Yves Saint Laurent. I’ve never felt compelled to buy luxury makeup. Usually the packaging is beautiful so I am enamoured by it but have always held off purchasing.

This is a product with many uses including highlighting and concealing. I have to go back to my complaint about these sets including “shaded” items. I think this will be an okay match for myself but that’s leaving out a huge selection of people. I’m reading it has yellow undertones so even if it’s light enough, I lean more pink.

I seriously think I got a dud, though. Guys, no joke, I had to click the button on the bottom about 30 times before I got any product and only the tiniest bit came out. I keep pressing the button and nothing more is coming. -_-

Retail Value: $50 (full size)

Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray

This is an excellent setting spray! This will be my 3rd bottle I’ve ever owned. While I do love this setting spray, I think the L’Oréal Infallible is just as good and is a better price point. But I don’t want to take away from this one (I just want to save you some money if I can!). I’m glad they included a setting spray in this set because no matter which brand they put in here, I would have been happy to try it!

This size is sold on the Sephora website as a mini.

Retail Value: $18 (travel size)

Total Retail Value: $274.01

Sephora’s estimate is $268 but I have calculated a slightly higher value. It’s so close, though, that I feel like I can say Sephora’s estimate is accurate. Sometimes it is really off so that is why I like to do the math myself.

Sephora Favourites Superstars Everyday Must Haves 2017

Final Thoughts? As a whole, I think this is a really awesome set! I don’t think it’s perfect. There are a few items in here that I won’t use but I think I still get my money’s worth if I don’t use every single thing. For their future sets, I would like to see them not include items that not everyone can use based on their skin tone or hair colour.

When I ordered this, I used a code for a free Caudalie gift and of course, got my 3 free samples! What I got is pictured below! The lighting is a bit different because I forgot to take pictures of them originally.

I used the code LOVEVIB to get this trio of Caudalie deluxe samples. It includes their Instant Foaming CleanserVinoperfect Concentrated Brightening Essence and Resveratrol [Lift] Eye Lifting Balm.

I then chose my 3 free samples. I got the SK-II Genoptics Aura EssenceLancôme La Vie en Belle L’Eau de Parfum and Chloé Love Story Eau de Parfum. Funny thing is I used to hate getting all these perfume samples but now I love getting the ones with the sprayer!

I hope you enjoyed my post and that this closer look has given you some clarity if you still haven’t bought it but were thinking about it. If you did indulge, let me know which products do and don’t work for you! Take care loves!

  1. Oh wow you really get your money worth… It really sounds like a great deal… But the tricky thing about sets, are that you rarely love everything it it :/ I haven’t tried many of those products, except from the beauty blender and smashbox primer, which I adore ❤ Lovely photos as always!

    1. Yeah there are a lot of sets on the Sephora website that I haven’t bought because I know I won’t use half of it! When I saw this one, I knew I would use the majority so it was a good deal for me.
      And thank you! ❤

  2. This set looks so good! I love that you get a full size beauty blender and two setting powders. That’s a shame about the YSL product not working well, I hope it’s fixable. I would be so annoyed!

    1. After about 50 button presses, it’s finally somewhat working. It says you’re only supposed to click it once for enough product but I don’t find enough product comes out at all. I have no idea if this is normal or if I got a dud!

  3. I was so curious about this set – I’m glad I saw your post first. I’m always drawn to the Sephora Favourites sets and this one looks awesome. I would suggest returning the YSL concealer and getting one that works. Knowing Sephora you might have to exchange the whole set but at least you’d get working items.

    1. I wouldn’t mind if I have to exchange the whole set since I have it pretty much all together still. The instructions for the YSL says that one click is enough product but hardly anything comes out. And that’s after I clicked it at least 50 times in the first place.

  4. I’m so jealous I live in the UK and we don’t have Sephora (although my fingers are permanently crossed) I still enjoyed this so much and love your photography skills!

  5. I love these sets, but I don’t think I will get this particular one. I wish Sephora stopped putting the same things in them over and over again, especially those that were birthday gifts. I still haven’t used up what I have LOL. Plus, like you mentioned, some colors wouldn’t work for me. I was really intrigued by that YSL highlighter, but now I wonder why are you having a problem with it. It’s a great set overall, but not for me (thank you!).

    1. Yeah I don’t like them including birthday gifts because that means we all likely already have the item. They could have at least included different shades or something. I’m not sure what is up with the YSL. I may have to take the set back to the store and exchange it.

  6. This was one set that I really wanted last year (like you, I waited until the VIB sale, at which point they were sold out), but this year’s set unfortunately doesn’t appeal to me as much. Regardless, it’s a really good deal if you are excited about the majority of the products, and there’s some awesome products included. And yes, I agree about them including stuff like brow products and concealer in these sets – there is no universal shade for these!

    1. Last year’s was way better. I feel like this one is less exciting for me than last year because I’ve already tried a lot of these products and I really like trying new stuff (it’s sort of why I buy these).
