The One with the FabFitFun Fall 2017 Box

Well, it’s officially Fall (or Autumn, if you prefer)! What are the best things about Fall? Colourful leaves, Pumpkin Spice Lattes, sweater weather, apple picking…. and of course, the Fall FabFitFun box! 😀

This is one of my favourite subscriptions out there because it’s such a treat. Do I need all of this stuff? Hell no! I would never think to buy myself a lot of these things that come in FabFitFun boxes. But they are always items that I love to receive as gifts and I think that’s the beauty of this subscription.

The Fall box is super pretty with the foliage. I always enjoy the look of the boxes and I hate getting rid of them! I started saving them so I can use them for wrapping up Christmas gifts. Each box always contains an insert that has information on all the items of the box. They continued the newspaper-like format from the Summer box.

Now enough chatter and let’s get into what everyone really wants to see – the goodies inside!!

What is it? FabFitFun Box
How much is it? $49.99 USD quarterly or $179.99 USD yearly
Ships to? Canada & US
Shipping costs? $8 USD per month; Free for US
What’s inside? Full size, premium beauty, fashion, fitness, wellness and home products, valued $200+

Deco Miami Lavender Cuticle Oil

This could not have come at a better time for me! I’ve been saying to myself that I need to buy a new cuticle oil! I was using a balm from Sally Hansen and I just wasn’t a fan of the process. This one is a brush tip oil which I prefer.

I’m not big on lavender scents usually but this one smells very nice. It’s not overpowering at all. You can also purchase this in the scent “lemon blossom.” It comes in the same type of bottle that a nail polish comes in. The packaging is so cute! It’s a triangular box with beautiful watercolour artwork.

It contains a blend of vitamins and organic oils – Vitamins E and C, Argan oil, bamboo extract, and safflower oil. One tip I learned from my sister is to not only apply the oil to your cuticles but also the skin around the nail bed to stimulate new nail growth!

Retail Value: $12.50 USD / $15.42 CAD

trèStiQue Matte Colour & Shiny Balm Lip Crayon

I am no stranger to trèStiQue products as they are included in my Ipsy subscription quite a bit. In general, I like lip crayons because I find them easier to apply with their tapered tip. This product is pulling double duty because on one end, it has the matte lip crayon and on the other end is a shiny lip balm!

The colour I received is called “Florence Fig & Rose Balm” which is described as a deep nude but you could also receive “Tuscan Wine & Syrah Balm” which is a wine shade. The crayon end literally looks like a crayon which I’ve always found a nice quirk about their product design! The lid also has a magnetic close.

These are swatches of each side. As you can see, the balm is not tinted. You can barely see it on my skin at all but I promise you it is there! I did feel it left a bit of a tint on my lips though because they looked pale pink after using it. The crayon leans more of a rosy nude on my lips, which I love. I also tried layering the balm on top of the lip crayon for a nice glossy finish.

Retail Value: $28 USD / $34.55 CAD

MyTagAlongs Hot & Cold Gel Pack

needed this. I’m super happy this came in the box! I already own a hot water bottle which works great but it’s also a little bit inconvenient because you have to boil water first. You can just stick this gel pack in the microwave! Heat on the stomach helps a lot to relieve bad period cramps and I really recommend it.

You can also stick this in the freezer and use it anywhere you may be experiencing pain. For me, I have bad knees and they become so painful, I can barely bend them. Icing them really helps to reduce the swelling.

Annual subscribers did not get to choose which colour pack they received. I got the black one that says “you give me fever” and “cold hearted snake” but I would have loved the teal that says “ice ice baby” and “it’s getting hot in here.” Ultimately, the colour is insignificant.

Retail Value: $15 USD / $18.51 CAD

Mer-Sea & Co. Cozy Wrap

I want to touch on the name of this company first. Now that I get it, I think it’s such a clever name. They describe it like this:

“Our artisan products are inspired by our love of the sea and of travel. ‘Mer’ means ‘sea’ in French and together, phonetically, they sound exactly as we feel – thankful.”

love that. At first I was pronouncing “mer” as in “mermaid” so I didn’t make the connection but now that I know it sounds like the French word for thank you, “merci,” I find the company name so darn clever.

So the packaging says this is a cozy wrap and FabFitFun calls it a scarf. Whatever it is, I really like it. It’s super soft and definitely feels cozy wrapped around me. It’s too hot to wear it right now but I know the weather will cool down very soon.

There were 3 colours to choose from if you are an annual subscriber and all 3 were very beautiful in their own way – Blush, Grey and Teal. I decided to go with grey because don’t I always go for the grey?! When it comes to apparel, it’s my favourite colour. I just feel like it goes with everything! I really loved the look of the teal and blush wraps, though.

Retail Value: $98 USD / $120.94 CAD

Private Party Gym Bag

This is a gym bag but can certainly be used as an overnight bag for those of us that don’t hit the gym! It’s a pretty good size and it has an open pocket on the inside and a zippered pocket on the outside. It has a denim wash, cotton handles and mine has “Gym & Juice” printed on it.

I chose the saying “Gym & Juice” simply because of the old Snoop Dogg song “Gin & Juice.” Such a throwback! The other choices were “Will Workout for Cupcakes” and “Meet Me at the Barre.” The sayings are cute but I could have done without them.

Retail Value: $59 USD / $72.80 CAD

Whish Beauty Renewing Mud Mask

This mud mask promises smoother, softer and more youthful looking skin! You only need a thin layer and you leave it on for one minute before using circular motions to gently exfoliate the skin.

One of the star ingredients is Bakuchiol which is described as “an edible 100% natural substitute for retinol. Clinical studies show same efficacy as retinol without the drying, redness, and UV issues.”

I love masks, especially ones that pull impurities from the skin so this looks like one I will enjoy. Of course, the anti aging benefits are appealing as well! This mask also contains pineapple and papaya fruit enzymes and rosehip oil. It also comes with a pump dispenser!

Retail Value: $48 USD / $59.25 CAD

Imm Living Coxet Wire Heart Ceramic Jewelry Holder

I absolutely love this! I love its geometric style and rose gold wire. It’s very in right now. It also comes in super handy for me because my current jewelry tree is so full. I definitely needed something else to share the load!

I find this to be more designed for rings and earrings which are my least worn items. I am more of a bracelet and necklace girl! But that’s ok. I have some bracelets I can still hang off of this and I could always lay a couple of necklaces down in the porcelain tray.

This may even come in handy for flatlay photos! 😀

Retail Value: $33 USD / $40.74 CAD

Now for the CHOICE items! Each season, FabFitFun members have the option to choose between 2 or 3 completely different products to receive. This is a relatively new feature. This season, they allowed us to know what the products were, whereas previously they only gave us hints. I’m happy we don’t have to choose blindly anymore. I’m sure they received a lot of feedback regarding this.

Molr Dental Club Organic Carbon + Coconut Teeth Whitening Powder and Toothbrush

My other choice could have been the dpHue Apple Cider Vinegar Hair Rinse. While I thought both options were great, I went for the whitening powder because it’s something I’ve always wanted to try!

This product is made from activated carbon from coconut shells. It is a natural way of whitening your teeth. It removes external stains while also reducing cavities, gum disease and bad breath. The ingredients are all natural and organic!

You simply dip a wet toothbrush into the powder, brush for two minutes, spit it out carefully and rinse well!

Retail Value: $43.95 USD / $54.27 CAD

The Jetset Diaries Cable Knit Beanie

My choice was between this knit beanie and a B-Low the Belt Mia Belt. The belt wasn’t really my style but I normally rock a toque in the winter time. That said, this whole beanie thing is new to me. I’m not used to wearing a hat far back on my head like that for style rather than warmth. I kind of like it, though.

The colour I received is a dusty rose. The other option was black but we were actually not able to choose. It was a surprise! I wanted the pink because I have black hats already so I was pleased to see I got the colour I hoped for!

Retail Value: $49 USD / $60.51 CAD

Sponsored Item

Cottonelle FreshCare Flushable Cleansing Cloths

Each season, FabFitFun includes a sponsored item that is not included in the total retail value of the box. Often these items are very useful which these totally are! These are perfect to throw in your purse or keep by the toilet! Trust me, these are amazing during your period. It does say they are flushable but I know that is “frowned upon” and I just throw them in the trash.

Total Retail Value: $386.45 USD / $476.99 CAD

Final Thoughts? I am loving the Fall box! I didn’t get any items that I dislike or feel like I won’t get much use from. If I had to narrow down my favourite items, I would say the cuticle oil, hot and cold gel pack, jewelry holder, scarf/wrap, teeth whitener and mud mask. I know I just listed almost everything…

What do you guys think of the value? It’s really outstanding but also curious. I always double check these company’s websites to confirm the prices and FabFitFun always lists them accurately. But a big part of me thinks some of these prices are ridiculous. $72 CAD for a gym bag?! $120 CAD for a scarf?! That is why I am happy to receive such overpriced items in my box because there is no way in hell I would ever pay that much money for items like that.

Add-Ons

One of my favourite parts of FabFitFun is the add-ons! These are discounted products you can purchase and they will ship free with your seasonal box! This is where I really get to have fun. I usually have a ton of stuff in my cart and then when I realize that I am spending way too much money, I take out a few items. XD Take a look below at what I purchased this time.

Luma Hair Straightening Ceramic Brush

I purchased this for $29 USD ($35.79 CAD) while it retails for $69 CAD on the Hudson’s Bay website. I’ve always wanted to try one of these straightening brushes. I did give the Dafni one a try at a Showcase store one time and it seemed to work well from the quick try I gave it. I have big kinky hair so it will be interesting to see how it performs!

Adrienne Vittadini Charging Wallet

This was such an interesting concept to me. I love my phone but the battery dies so fast and I’m always having to carry around power banks. This wallet charges Apple or Android phones without having to take along extra items in your purse. I bought it for $22 USD ($27.15 CAD) and it retails for $60 USD ($74.04 CAD).

Living Proof Restore Perfecting Spray

I got a mini of this recently and I really liked it! When I saw it on sale for $11 USD ($13.57 CAD), I knew that was a steal so I scooped it up. On Sephora’s website, it costs $37 CAD for this same 8 oz bottle! I really liked how it made my hair a lot easier to brush through and left it feeling soft and silky.

Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Kiss Cupuaçu Lip Butter

This cost me $9 USD ($11.10 CAD) but it retails for $23 CAD on the Sephora website. Ever since trying the Bum Bum Cream, I was left wanting to try more of Sol de Janeiro’s products. This has cupuaçu butter, açaí, and coconut oil so of course I was intrigued. It smells delicious like caramel but I am left wondering why they made the tube so darn big!

Whish Almond Lip Scrub

I am just about out of my Lush Bubblegum Lip Scrub so when I saw this for only $5 USD ($6.17 CAD), I had to get it! I don’t see it available to purchase anywhere online but FabFitFun listed the original price as $16 USD ($19.74 CAD). It has that delicious almond scent that I love so I can’t wait to try this!

And that’s everything! I hope you enjoyed unboxing the Fall FabFitFun with me! What do you think the best part of this box was? Are there any items you don’t like at all? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I am intrigued because of how good the value is! Although the subscription is on the pricier side you get a lot of amazing goodies that would’ve been priced much higher otherwise..thanks so much for your thorough review!<3

    1. Haha glad you agree the prices are ridiculous! But I guess a lot of these brands are independent and need to make their money somewhere. But still! That’s why it’s nice to get them in the box, for sure! Thanks for reading, love!

  2. That Deco Miami Lavender Cuticle Oil bottle is so cute! I’ve heard good things about that brand’s nail polishes too.
“Mer-Sea” is is a clever brand name! 🙂 That wrap does look super cozy.
Teeth whitening powder is intriguing – you’ll have to report back if they work for you.
I do feel that they inflate the suggested retail value of these items to make it seem like you’re getting your money’s worth.
By the way, if you do want to try a vinegar hair rinse, Yves Rocher makes a really good one and it’s quite inexpensive and it smells like raspberries:

    1. Thanks for the suggestion for the hair rinse! I was really interested by the one FFF offered but more interested in the teeth whitening so it was a hard choice. Nice to know there is an affordable option!! Thanks for reading!! ❤

  3. I came just to see what you received compared to my box. I just subscribed to FFF from this box, and really like it. I got different versions of the beanie, gym bag and trèStiQue lippie, and chose the vinegar rinse instead of the whitening powder. I really like everything, except that jewelry tray, so it will be gifted (it’s cute, I just don’t use things like that).

I’m really interested in hearing how you like the whitening powder, hope you’ll review it.

As a side note, do you know any Canadian swap sites or Facebook groups?

    1. Yes! My favourite one I am in on Facebook is called “ipsy All Boxes Beauty Talk Trade and Sell Canada” and it’s great!! Love it there, I’m sure you will too!!

Thanks for checking out my post! I’m glad you love the majority of your box!!

  4. Omg that cozy and beanie are so me! I bundling up for Cold months.

I always hesitate purchasing a subscription from fab fit fun (mostly BC I don’t car for the items in their intro box) but this box is amazing! Plus I love that most of the items are totally gift worthy.

I think I might just test it out!

    1. I need to bundle up in the cold months too! I swear I have a sensitivity to the cold haha I am always freezing! Full on shivering and teeth chattering!!

That’s one thing I like about this box is that if there are items I won’t use, I can easily give them as gifts to someone I know will appreciate it!!

  5. I just got my box today! I was trying to avoid too many spoilers before I got my box so I just read your review now haha
I loved pretty much everything in the box too, except for the jewelry tray because I have nothing to hang on it, and I the sponsored item was not what I expected haha! I didn’t even think about the name of mer-sea, but I’m glad you explained it because I was like OHH! It’s the softest scarf ever! I would never spend $98US on a scarf, but I love that I have it now.
I chose the beanie as well, it’s really soft too but I definitely don’t think it’s worth fifty bucks!
I’m very curious about how well the charcoal toothpaste/brush works! I didn’t get that item but I would consider buying it if it’s amazing, I have coffee stains that I can never get rid of 😦
    Great review!!

    1. The jewelry tray is definitely something that is more aesthetically pleasing for me than useful. I don’t own many earrings or rings which it is for but I will make it work for bracelets and necklaces somehow!

Oh yeah I couldn’t believe the beanie is $50! That’s crazy haha. I get it that these are independent companies and they need to make money somehow but I really wonder how much they are going to sell if they’re that overpriced!?

I hope the charcoal works! I know you can just buy activated charcoal at the store and DIY instead of paying a bunch of money for this stuff. I always meant to try it and always forgot! Coffee stains are the worst. I didn’t drink coffee for a few years because I was taking care of my teeth and then I went back to it because I missed it. My teeth were not pleased! 😅

      1. It’s pretty darn cute regardless, it would look nice just on a desk or something!

Haha yeah, I know smaller businesses have to charge more but $50 is pushing it. I also love the mer sea scarf/wrap so much, but for $98 I feel like it should have been hand made.

I hope so too! I’ve been obsessing over my stained teeth for ages, the dentist says they’re perfectly healthy but I want them to not have stains 😭
I’ve seen similar products on Amazon but I was too skeptical to buy them. How did you ever manage to quit coffee in the first place!? I have a full blown coffee addiction 😆

  6. So I tried the fabfitfun box back in spring 2015 and wasn’t really over the moon on it. It had more gift vouchers that I actually didn’t end up using than products. So for me, it wasn’t worth the “bang for my buck”.
I am in love with all of these amazing gifts in this seasons box though 😍 and really am interested in the pick your own gifts feature.
I might just try it again soon!

    1. Yeah they used to include some gift cards that were pretty much useless for Canadians and it definitely detracted from the experience! Luckily now they seemed to have quit that!

This box is really good and I feel like each box gets better and better!!

  7. Wow you got so many awesome products in this box! That Luma hair brush!!! I’ve been so curious about hairstyling tools like that – please keep us updated about how well it works!
