empties, reviews

The One with the Empties July 2017

It’s empties time!! My favourite post of the month! I love looking back on all the items I used up and doing mini reviews on them for you guys! They’re also my favourite posts to read! I did another great job of finishing up a lot of products in July. Let’s take a closer look!

Laneige Multi Cleanser
I really enjoyed this cleanser! I also figured out it was an exfoliator (which I would have known, had I read the label) when I was scrubbing my face and I could feel the tiniest particles gently massaging my skin! I really felt like I got the best clean I’ve ever had following this cleanser. You know that squeaky clean feeling you get after you brush your teeth? My skin felt like that minus the squeak!  XD But I experienced no dryness or tightness! I like that it’s a cream, it lathers super well and a tiny bit goes a long way. It also left my skin looking brighter and very soft.
Repurchase? At some point, yes.

Amie New Leaf Deep Pore Exfoliating Polish
This smelled like orange creamsicles! So good! But my pro list pretty much ends there. As an exfoliator, there were too few particles in it so I didn’t really feel like it was exfoliating my skin very well. As a cleanser, it didn’t lather or at least spread on my face well. I needed to use a shit ton of product to feel like it was doing anything.
Repurchase? No.

Origins Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash
This face wash took a few uses to grow on me! I wasn’t sure about it at first but ended up really liking it! It has a slight minty scent which I wasn’t expecting. Similar to the Laneige, I loved the way it lathered up so easily and literally the smallest amount of product worked for the whole face. It also never left my skin feeling dry or tight!
Repurchase? I would consider it.

Avène Thermal Spring Water
I admit, this is almost like a novelty item. While I don’t think it’s a necessity, I really liked having it. It’s not a miracle product but it does provide the expected soothing, refreshing and calming aspects. The thing I liked most about this product was bringing it on the go with me. It came in handy so many times. When my son would fall and scrape his knee, I sprayed this on it to clean it up. When I was out for a walk and feeling too hot, I would spray this on my face and feel instantly refreshed. I also loved using it when my skin was feeling a little parched or sunburnt. I love the way it sprays out in such a fine mist, too. The Evian one I am using right now comes out in such a blast, haha.
Repurchase? Absolutely.

Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber Gel Mask Extreme Detoxifying Hydrator
This was another product that I wasn’t in love with right away. I thought it was nice and refreshing but that was pretty much it. As someone who struggles with acne prone skin, I often get bad dry patches where I use acne fighting solutions. I don’t know what made me try this mask to cure my dry patches, but a light bulb turned on and lo and behold, it worked! It literally hydrated my skin so much that the dry patches disappeared. And they would stay gone, too. They didn’t come back the next day or anything. The only way I’d get more dry patches is from continuously using more acne fighting solutions. So for me, this is such an essential product to have in my collection.
Repurchase? Yes, I already did!

La Roche-Posay Micellar Water Ultra
It’s hard for me to say a lot about micellar waters. As long as they remove my makeup well and without difficulty, and don’t leave any sort of weird oily film on my face, I’m on board with them. This one does all that, so it’s a thumbs up in my books. It’s around the same price as the Bioderma micellar water that I love but more expensive than the Garnier.
Repurchase? Possibly! If it went on sale, I would.

Pur-lisse Blue Lotus 4-in-1 Eye Adore Serum
I can only say amazing things about this eye serum. I go through it way too fast for how expensive it is so I really need to chill. I was applying it day and night but now I’ve switched to just day time. And trust me, my undereye misses it at night! Why do I love this serum? The main reason is results. I started using this consistently at the start of 2016. I had pretty significant lines forming under my right eye in particular and after using this serum daily, there has been a huge reduction in how deep the lines are. Not only that, but I also love this serum because of how well it hydrates my undereye and works under makeup. I also love that it helps brighten my dark circles and depuffs.
Repurchase? Yes, I have purchased many backups!

The Body Shop Pomegranate Invigorating Toner
I love this toner! I used this nightly while I use a mattifying one during the day. This one is for mature skin but I like my anti-aging products! I can’t really see a toner doing a lot for preventing wrinkles but hey, you never know.  XD The reason I like this toner so much is because it left my skin feeling super soft while also helping to minimize my pores. I use toners in my skin care routine to remove any excess makeup or cleanser that got left behind. It also restores your skin’s natural pH balance after cleansing. I’ve also always read that it’s important for oily skinned and acne prone ladies to use it so I do!
Repurchase? Yes.

The Body Shop Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil
This is indeed silky and leaves my skin soft but it doesn’t take makeup off as smoothly as Burt’s Bees or Julep. I don’t want to make it sound awful because it really isn’t, but it did fall slightly short for me. It also didn’t help that the pump was always acting up so that was annoying. The smell was amazing though; I’ll give it that!
Repurchase? No.

Secret Clinical Smooth Solid with Olay Antiperspirant/Deodorant
This is my secret weapon during the hot summer months! Thank god they came out with clinical deodorant because I need it! I don’t really sweat much but can get some stinky pits just from my body temperature being too hot. The only problem is after a few weeks, my body becomes too accustomed to it and it stops working as good. But unfortunately, there’s nothing else I can do because it’s the best I’ve tried thus far.
Repurchase? All the time (and ladies, check your local Dollarama because they have them in stock now for $4!!)

Satin Care Alluring Avocado Shave Gel
I’m really not picky when it comes to shaving cream. I usually just choose whatever is the cheapest! I remember I bought this one and a few more for one dollar at a grocery store that was clearing them out! I really liked this one because it felt really moisturizing and I didn’t get any razor burn.
Repurchase? Yes.

The Face Shop Sheet Masks
I have such a big stash of sheet masks from The Face Shop. In July, I tried out 2 new ones – Green Tea and Lemon – and one that I’ve used before – Açaí Berry. I really loved the green tea and Açaí berry ones. While the sheets are too big for my face, they are only a few bucks so it’s worth it. They hydrate, brighten and last for at least 30 minutes. So why didn’t I include the lemon one in that assessment? Well, because I expected so much more from a sheet mask whose primary claim is supposed to be brightening the skin. My skin was not brightened any more or less than any other TFS sheet mask I’ve tried. So I found it very weird.
Repurchase? Yes, just maybe not the lemon one.

Karuna Exfoliating+ Face Mask
These are literally the best sheet masks as far as fit goes. The slits in the mask are deep enough that I can position it just right on my face! That’s so rare when you have a small face! Aside from that, I love how this mask clings to my skin, and makes it feel hydrated and look radiant.
Repurchase? Maybe. $10 for one mask is a lot but I could potentially treat myself every once in awhile.

Sephora Orchid Eye Mask
I have fallen in love with eye masks! They are the easiest masks to use, period. No mess at all! After using a full face sheet mask from Sephora (the pomegranate one) and it left my skin a little bumpy, I was nervous to try another mask from them. But I’m glad I did because I didn’t have a weird reaction from this one. It plumped and firmed my undereye so my lines weren’t as visible. I find most sheet masks temporarily leave my lines less visible so it’s why I like using them so much.
Repurchase? Yes, probably when I need a few extra dollars worth of product to get free shipping!  XD

Spongellé Body Wash Infused Buffer
I have some pros and cons to this. What I did like was how you just had to wet it, and it would lather up – you don’t have to add soap. It’s supposed to last 14+ washes. I didn’t keep count but that number does seem right. It left my skin feeling very soft. It really exfoliates the skin well although I found it a little too rough at times. The thing I didn’t like was actually the scent. It is “Bulgarian rose” and I think I’m just not a huge fan of rose-scented beauty products.
Repurchase? Yes, I already have, but in different scents!

Quo Luxury Cotton Pads
After the disaster of the Joe Fresh Exfoliating Cotton Pads, these Quo ones were a godsend! I pretty much just pick up cotton pads wherever I happen to be. In this case, I happened to be at Shoppers when I remembered I needed to buy some. They’re only an 80 pack so they don’t last very long, and they are a tad expensive but I loved them. They felt luxe for a cotton pad and they didn’t fall apart at all.
Repurchase? I wouldn’t go out of my way, but yes.

BodiPure Keratin Gloves & Socks
These are awesome! I never knew hand and foot masks were a thing until I got a pack of these in a FabFitFun box last year. I bought more because I loved using them. I always use these on a movie night. You let them sit for 20 or more minutes while you relax! They’re great for people who tend to go on their phone while they watch movies… they force you to pay attention! My hands and feet are left so moisturized after using these and yes, even my heels!!
Repurchase? Definitely! I already have a stash of them!

Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo
This dry shampoo is only ok for me. It reminds me of the Amika dry shampoo where I feel like it works great to absorb the oil and refresh the hair but it lacked in the adding volume department. I get flat hair after days 1 and 2 so I really need a dry shampoo that can add volume for days 3 and 4. I also didn’t think it smelled the greatest.
Repurchase? No.

Hask Macadamia Oil Hydrating Deep Conditioning Hair Treatment
I couldn’t recommend these enough. They’re somewhere around $2-3 and there’s only about 3-4 uses but it’s so worth it. They are amazing for dry and damaged hair! My hair feels so soft and silky afterwards. There’s many different kinds you can buy – coconut oil, keratin, argan oil, etc. so there’s one for every hair concern!
Repurchase? Yes, I already did – I picked up the Argan and Coconut oil ones!

Dove Quench Absolute Crème Serum
This was a sizable foil sample but I actually didn’t finish it all the way through. I think I used it 3 or 4 times and decided not to waste my time on it anymore. I thought I would love it because I generally love Dove (and I did like the shampoo/conditioner from this line) and it says it’s for dry, wavy, curly hair which is what I have. But it didn’t really do anything for my hair. If I’m going to weigh my hair down with product, it better tame my frizz, or make it feel silky, or something. This did not so in the garbage it goes.
Repurchase? No.

MaskerAide Spotted! Anti-Blemish Clear Spot Patches
This box comes with 8 sheets of 12 patches for a total of 96. They contain Tea Tree oil and Salicylic Acid so if used too many days in a row, they can leave a dry patch around your blemish. Unfortunately, there’s really no way around that with any acne fighting solution (which is why I love the PTR cucumber gel mask so much!). That little PSA aside, I really do love these. Not only do they help speed up the healing process of my blemishes, but I like that they cover up my blemishes so that they are kept bacteria free. They are also fantastic if your pimple has come to a white head and you need to suck out the pus (ew, TMI?).
Repurchase? Yes, I already bought a backup box!

The Body Shop Cocoa Butter Lip Care Stick
I didn’t have high hopes for this since I wasn’t a big fan of The Body Shop’s Lip Butters but it turned out to be really good. It made my lips feel hydrated and smooth. I also really enjoyed the smell of it!
Repurchase? No, only because The Body Shop does not carry it anymore. 😦

Bath & Body Works 3-Wick Scented Candle
At the tail end of winter, I was waiting (im)patiently for this “Fresh Cut Lilacs” scented candle to pop up at B&BW. The year before, I waited too long to purchase it and it sold out at my local store!! So I knew I had to scoop one up as soon as I saw it, which I ended up doing. This is my favourite spring scent! It smells exactly like lilacs to me! It’s a staple in my house for spring time.
Repurchase? 100%!!

That’s it, that’s all!

Thanks for reading my empties posts, ladies! Let me know what you emptied this month and if you’ve tried any of the products that I’ve emptied!

P.s. I’m thinking of starting a new post series where I basically try on all the makeup that I receive from my subscription boxes – the good and the bad! I honestly hate taking selfies so that will be challenging but I think it would be a fun little series because it would force me to play around with new stuff instead of sticking to old faves. I might start with the makeup from my July subs but we’ll see! Let me know what you think.

xoxo, Tigritsa

  1. I don’t think I’ve used any of these empties before. I’ve been looking at the laneige value sets at sephora forever though, so it’s good to know you liked the cleanser! I might need to pick up the full size of the Peter Roth Cucumber Mask too. I’m so sad that B&BW is already selling Fall scents, where has summer gone!!?

    1. I think it was the $15 hydration set that I got this cleanser in! It’s a good deal and the other 3 products it comes with are nice too!

I haven’t been in B&BW lately but that is disappointing to hear! But I’ve seen Halloween stuff in so many stores lately so I guess that means summer is almost over. But seriously, fall is still awhile away, what the heck!
