subscription boxes, unboxing, white willow

The One with the White Willow December 2015 Box

White Willow is a brand new Canadian subscription box! It costs $35 monthly, plus tax and $8.50 shipping. So really, it’s about $50 a month, instead. Since this is the first box, I will include extra pictures so you can see what the unboxing was like. It was like opening a present!

The packaging was really beautiful and felt very luxe. This box promises a mixture of beauty, fashion, home, culinary, and lifestyle items. This first box pretty much covered all of those categories.

Calvin Klein 3-Piece Winter Set

This 3-piece set includes a hat, a scarf, and a pair of “texting” gloves. It comes in either white or beige, and I received the beige. This set is only all right for me. I am definitely going to gift it. It is supposedly worth $88 but I don’t know about that. I saw it on Zappos for $37.50, so I think the price has been inflated, or perhaps it’s what it used to be worth.

Crabtree & Evelyn London Biscuits

This is such a neat item to receive in a box. First of all, I love shortbread! Secondly, it’s something I didn’t expect to receive so it was a nice surprise. They sent out a handful of different flavours. I got traditional shortbread. I haven’t decided yet if I will keep these for myself or gift them for Christmas.

White Barn Mini Candle

This appears to be from Bath & Body Works, a favourite store of mine. 😉 They sent out two different scents, and I received Japanese Cherry Blossom, which is a scent I’ve bought from B&BW before. I love this smell, and I love candles, so this was nice to receive.

Sephora Collection Kiss Me Balm (picture above)

I am eager to try this lip balm from Sephora! I’ve seen it on their website before, and wondered about it. I received the cotton candy colour. According to the description, the balm shows little to no colour when applied on the lips, so I’m interested to see how that turns out.

Timree Holiday Cards

The description card says these were included as a “free gift.” While these don’t really make up for the lack of value in this box, it is a nice touch, considering Christmas is coming up. I needed a few cards to send out, so this is perfect timing.

So, my overall thoughts on this box are very mixed. It was super exciting to open everything up, especially when I had no idea what to expect. Like I said earlier, I loved the way it was packaged. Unfortunately, I’m not going to keep subscribing to a box due to beautiful packaging.

Here are some of the issues I had with this box. Keep in mind that this box costs $49.16 total per month. For the first month, I was able to use a $5 off coupon code (box5). I just don’t think the value was there. The 3 smaller items add up to about $22.50. While I really enjoyed the products themselves, when I paid almost $50, it’s a little disappointing.

The Calvin Klein set price just isn’t sitting well with me. I don’t believe it’s $88. And I think if it indeed is worth that much, it’s still disappointing because I won’t use it. If I wanted this product, I could pay $37.50 for it. So, in total, in my opinion, this box was worth $60.

That said, I am going to try another month of White Willow. If I don’t see a better value, I don’t think I will be able to continue subscribing. I really want to support this new Canadian box, so I am happy to give it another chance. I really like the idea behind this box. I loved the mix of products, so that wasn’t the issue! Hopefully next month will be a little better!

  1. This is so intriguing, I was literally just buying a set of gloves and scarves for xmas so I would have totally used that Calvin Klein set…haha!
The stuff in this box looks pretty interesting, I can’t wait to see what you get next month! Hopefully it’s more of what you want and better value items 🙂
